Background and Aims: Modified LDL has been proposed as central in atherogenesis. This may be caused by inadequate removal of modified LDL by autoantibodies.However, the hypothesis of oxidized LDL as an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis is controversial. This is partly due to the difficulty of measuring oxLDL in plasma. Instead, we analyzed autoantibodies against degraded apoB100 epitopes. Our aim was to identify risk populations where the immune system has a reduced ability to handle modified LDL
