Abstract
Transverse flux permanent magnet machine (TFPMM) has advantages of arbitrarily set poles and adjustable cross-section of armature winding, which is suitable for the traction motor geared to urban rail transit industry. This paper analysis and optimizes the shape of the omega-hoop stator of the proposed TFPNIM. The original and optimized models are described by three-dimensional (3-D) finite element analysis (FEA). The electromagnetic characteristics of both structures are evaluated and analyzed. The results indicate that the reduction of stator hoop brings about shorter magnetic circuit to achieve better magnetic field and compact volume performances.
