•The non-thermal plasma technology used to treat vanadium-based catalysts for the first time.•The plasma treated catalysts exhibited smaller particle size and more oxygen vacancy than untreated catalyst.•V-Ce-Ni/TiO2-HP catalyst exhibited widest operation temperature range (T90 = 195–414 °C).•100% of NO conversion was maintained over V-Ce-Ni/TiO2-HP catalyst (T100 = 230–350 °C).
