Abstract
•Steroidome analysis allowed quantifying 28 steroids in gilts saliva.•Steroids concentrations in gilts saliva varied from immature to pubertal stage.•We identified steroids that could be biomarkers of the receptivity to boar effect.•We contributed to the development of non-hormonal tools for estrous synchronization.•Non-invasive saliva sampling is in agreement with improvement of animal welfare.
