Tunable random fiber laser with half-open-cavity configuration

A half-open-cavity random fiber laser with a simple structure and adjustable wavelength has been proposed and demonstrated, which uses stimulated Brillouin scattering and erbium-doped fiber to provide hybrid gain and Rayleigh scattering as random distribution feedback. With the pump power of the 980 nm lasers increasing, the highest 7th-order Stokes laser output can be obtained, when the Brillouin pump wavelength and power are fixed at 1560 nm and 7.4 dB m respectively. Furthermore, the output wavelength of the Brillouin random laser can be tunable in the range of from 1529 nm to 1588 nm with the Stokes order number remained 7, indicating that the random fiber laser has a wavelength adjustable range of 36 nm.
