Elderly patients who undergo renal biopsy are at increased risk of bleeding. Prophylactic desmopressin may reduce uremic bleed but it can cause or exacerbate hyponatremia, a condition common among older individuals. As there is little data on utility, efficacy and safety of desmopressin prophylaxis in older adults, we aimed to evaluate post-biopsy outcomes and the impact of desmopressin prophylaxis in older adults with renal impairment undergoing percutaneous kidney biopsies.
