•Dengue has a marked characteristic that is the increase of vascular permeability, observed more frequently in severe cases.•Increased endothelial permeability favors viral dispersion and increases the migration of immune cells to target tissues.•Immune cells expressing chemokine receptors can be recruited to target tissues, leading to a tissue inflammatory process.•An intense and persistent inflammatory process induces tissue damage in the dengue patient.
