•We study the wall-slip behaviour of Carbopol gels in a Poiseuille flow.•The slip velocity is related to the wall stress by a nearly linear scaling law.•The slip velocity changes with the gel concentration, solvent viscosity, and preparation method.•The sliding yield stress changes linearly with the yield stress of the gel.
