Abstract
With the growth of population, urbanization, industrialization and other social processes, China has entered a period of high incidence of all kinds of emergencies. The problem of hazard prevention and mitigation has become increasingly prominent. Thus more and more attention has been paid to the concept of resilience. In this paper, we evaluated the provincial resilience of China with the entropy method. The evaluation was based on the BRIC model proposed by Carter, which consists of five aspects: resilience of the economy, the resilience of society, resilience of environment, resilience of infrastructure, and resilience of organization. The data of the 31 provinces originated from the National Statistical Yearbook, China Environmental Statistical Yearbook, and China Energy Yearbook et al. The results of evaluation and comparison showed that the general level of provincial resilience is quite low. Meanwhile, the differences among provinces are relatively large. The resilience has a significant correlation with the economic development level of provinces, infrastructure construction, and ecological environment.
