Abstract
In Japan, the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection is high in populations aged over 60 years. Therefore, the number of patients who require endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric cancer (GC) is increasing among elderly. ESD is recognized as a less invasive treatment for GC in elderly patients. However, few studies have assessed physical stress of elderly patients during perioperative period of ESD. This study aimed to compare the physical stress of elderly patients with that of non-elderly patients. We examined the change in serum opsonic activity (SOA) measured by lucigenin-dependent chemiluminescence (LgCL) and luminol-dependent chemiluminescence (LmCL) to estimate the physical stress during the perioperative period of gastric ESD.
