Characterization Of The Response Of Perovskite Solar Cells To Gamma Rays And Neutrons

Perovskite solar cells are a promising technology for printing photovoltaics in a stand-alone space environment. Therefore, their response to space radiation is of interest. We document here the initial studies that were performed and the direction for future studies. Samples of Perovskite solar cells immersed in a nitrogen atmosphere were subjected to different doses of gamma radiation and were exposed to an isotopic neutron source. We find that irradiated samples reduced their forward and backward efficiencies by more than 33% compared to the same cells prior to irradiation. Further studies with encapsulated solar cells are warranted.
