•New compounds with improved in vitro efficiency against different Leishmania spp.•Compounds 2, 10 and 11 obtained promising results in both extracellular and intracellular forms.•Compounds 1 and 9 obtained promising results against two species.•Compound 12 obtained promising results against L. infantum.•Compound 11 caused mitochondrial membrane depolarization.
