•After eliminating measles, Bhutan wanted to know if immunity gaps remained.•A serosurvey assessed measles and rubella IgG seropositivity.•81% were measles IgG seropositive; 97% were rubella IgG seropositive.•An unexpected immunity gap was identified specifically in 5–17 year-olds.
