Odor generation patterns during different operational composting stages of anaerobically digested sewage sludge.

•Ammonia and volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) were the most emitted air pollutants.•VSC and acetic acid showed the largest odor activity values (OAV).•The early active phase and turning exhibited the highest odor emission rates (OER).•OER evolution was accompanied by a shift on the odorants exerting the odor stimuli.•VSC were the main drivers of odor nuisances along the different operational stages.
