At pathologic analysis, they may be benign (80% of cases), borderline, or malignant. Mucinous neoplasms of the ovary most commonly manifest with signs and symptoms of gradually increasing abdominal distension caused by an enlarging pelvic mass (top left). The average size at presentation is 18 cm, but these tumors may grow to fill the entire abdominopelvic cavity. At imaging, they are typically large multiloculated cystic masses with variable complexity (top right). At gross inspection, these multicystic masses contain variable amounts of viscous material (lower left). Pathologic features vary by histologic subtype but commonly consist of multiple compartments containing mucin and lined by gastrointestinal-type epithelium (lower right).Download as PowerPointOpen in Image Viewer Article HistoryPublished online: July 08 2019Published in print: July 2019 FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsRecommended Articles Mucinous Neoplasms of the Ovary: Radiologic-Pathologic CorrelationRadioGraphics2019Volume: 39Issue: 4pp. 982-997Multimodality Imaging Approach to Ovarian Neoplasms with Pathologic CorrelationRadioGraphics2020Volume: 41Issue: 1pp. 289-315Approach to Cystic Lesions in the Abdomen and Pelvis, with Radiologic-Pathologic CorrelationRadioGraphics2021Volume: 41Issue: 5pp. 1368-1386Past, Present, and Future of Serum Tumor Markers in Management of Ovarian Cancer: A Guide for the RadiologistRadioGraphics2021Volume: 41Issue: 6pp. 1839-1856Pediatric Ovarian Torsion: Spectrum of Imaging FindingsRadioGraphics2017Volume: 37Issue: 6pp. 1892-1908See More RSNA Education Exhibits Ovarian and Adnexal Masses: When to Worry and When Not to Worry - Practical Guide to Enhancing Radiologist RoleDigital Posters2019Opening Up the Ovary: A Multimodality Approach to Imaging Ovarian Neoplasms with Pathology CorrelationDigital Posters2019Spectrum of Cystic and solid tumors of the Ovary at Imaging : Simplified Classification and Practical approachDigital Posters2022 RSNA Case Collection Krukenberg TumorsRSNA Case Collection2021Benign cystic peritoneal mesotheliomaRSNA Case Collection2021Carcinosarcoma of the Ovary RSNA Case Collection2021 Vol. 39, No. 4 Metrics Altmetric Score PDF download
