Bayesian estimation of herd-level prevalence and risk factors associated with BoHV-1 infection in cattle herds in the State of Paraíba, Brazil

•The estimates from the model show that 84% of farms were truly infected, and the within-herd prevalence was 73%.•The risk factors were disposal of aborted foetuses by burying or burning, sharing of resources and herd size (> 23 animals).•Future implementation of control strategies for BoHV-1 in the State of Paraíba are merited.
