•Zhu’s circulation theorem of fluid mechanics was applied for natural circulation.•Zhu’s theorem obeys the right hand rule.•Loops like Mobius-Strip can effectively reduce the flow oscillation.•CFD simulations were carried out to provide physical intuition and numerical proof.
