Collapse dynamics of bubble pairs in gelatinous fluids

•The collapse of air bubbles is investigated by means of a shock tube.•Bubbles in gelatin behave the same way as bubbles in water during the first oscillation.•The collapse behavior is independent of the gelatin concentration.•Bubble pair interaction is classified with respect to relative distance and size ratio.•Four types of interaction with corresponding jetting behavior are identified.
