Effect of mill speed and slurry filling on the charge dynamics by an instrumented ball

•An instrumented ball was designed to measure the internal physical quantities of the ball mill.•Factors influencing the performance of the charge dynamics were investigated in wet grinding condition.•A mathematical model of the mill power varying with slurry filling under wet grinding condition was presented.
