Background: Kole described the anterior subapical segmental osteotomy in 1959. Successful uses of this osteotomy were reported in a wide range of orthognathic surgery procedures. One of the applications of this technique, is the advancement of deficient maxilla in cleft patients, in order to preserve their delicate velopharingeal function.
