•A new system analysis code IMPC-transient has been developed for the sub-critical reactor in ADS.•In IMPC-transient, both the neutron transport kinetics and the point reactor kinetics are available.•In IMPC-transient, the axial heat conduction in the liquid metal coolant has been taken into consideration.•SHRT-17 and SHRT-45R tests of EBR-II have been analyzed to verify the reliability of IMPC-transient preliminarily.
