Abstract
by race/ethnicity, the greatest increases in ALD cirrhosis hospitalizations was observed in Native Americans (+50.8%) and Asian/Pacific Islanders (+49.7%),followed by Hispanics (+42.8%), and African Americans (+41.1%).Non-Hispanic whites experienced the smallest proportional increase in ALD cirrhosis hospitalizations (+30.5%).When stratified by age, the greatest increase in AC hospitalizations was seen in those age 60-69 years (+41.0%),whereas hospitalizations among patients <50 years decreased by 7.4% from 2008 to 2014.When stratified by hospitalizations due to cirrhosis-related complications there was an increase in HCC (36.8%), ascites (23.6%) portal hypertension (52.5%),HRS (26.6%),SBP (55.7%),HE (22.0%), and varices (27.3%).Conclusion: From 2008 to 2014, ALD cirrhosisrelated hospitalizations in the U.S. increased by over 16%, with the greatest increases seen among women, Native Americans and Asian/Pacific Islanders, and those 60-69 years old.There was also an increase in hospitalizations due to cirrhosis-related complications.
