•I3C had protective properties effect by reducing lipid accumulation on blood vessel wall in HCD fed zebrafish larvae.•I3C was related to enhance the activity of autophagy through the class III PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in hyperlipidemia zebrafish model.•I3C did not interfere with early life stage development of zebrafish embryos.
