•Prevalence of mixed hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype (GT) infections was investigated in men who have sex with men (MSM).•A low prevalence of mixed HCV GT infections was observed in the study population.•Mixed HCV GT infections had no impact on HCV treatment outcome in the study population.
