Delayed cortical maturation at the centrotemporal brain regions in patients with benign childhood epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (BCECTS).

•The qEEG analysis revealed a significant greater absolute power of the theta and alpha waves in BCECTS patients with clinical seizure remission.•The differences were observed mainly over the centrotemporal electrodes which are the initial sites of the epileptiform discharges.•BCECTS cases with bilateral epileptiform discharges have higher absolute powers than the cases with unilateral epileptic activities.•BCECTS patients with clinical seizure remission have delay cortical maturation at the centrotemporal brain regions.
