Abstract
Restoring facial special morphology and normal functions for large bone defects is an extremely challenging issue in reconstructive surgery. The 3D modeling technology of craniofacial implants based on mechanical topology optimization method was proposed to solve this problem. According to the range of the defective region and the key structure of anatomy in the 3D craniofacial skeleton, the parametric optimization modeling was firstly carried out. Then, by analyzing actual load bearing which is mainly from masticatory stresses, the load and boundary conditions were applied to the object to optimize. And for the optimized results, the finite element analysis software Abaqus6.14 was used for mechanical analysis. In this paper, In this paper, compared with the traditional modeling approach, the implants designed by topology optimization modeling method of two typical types of patients with the craniofacial defects proved not only had advantages of good mechanical performance, but also achieved the lightweight structure of 23% of volume decrease, which provided a new idea for the development of craniofacial surgery.
