•Patients’ satisfaction with nursing practices is positively associated with overall satisfaction with quality of care.•High satisfaction with nursing care will lead to the building of a deep relationship between patients and nurses.•Patients who rated their health status as ‘excellent or good’ were more satisfied with the quality of nursing care.•The quality of nursing care is a shared responsibility between bedside nurses, nurse leaders, and nurse administrators.
