•Condensation behavior of R450A is investigated in a 4.7 mm mini-channel.•Heat transfer coefficients of R450A are on average 5% lower than R134a.•Pressure drop values of R450A are on average 8% higher than R134a.•Predictive capability of existing models is tested against R450A data.•Viability of distributed fiber optic temperature sensors is investigated.
