•Soyasaponin Ab is a soy bioactive compound that helps in the treatment of postmenopausal obesity.•Soyasaponin Ab inhibits adipogenesis and lipogenesis at both in vitro and in vivo levels.•Energy expenditure were increased by soyasaponin Ab trough beige fat activation as well as white fat browning.•Obesity-related metabolic disorders could be alleviated by Soyasaponin Ab treatment.
