Abstract 10654: Treatment Effect of Corticosteroids Therapy Incardiac Sarcoidosis as Measured by Cardiac PET Imaging

Introduction: The prevalence of cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) has increased in the past 10 years due to increased awareness and improved imaging modalities. PET scans are increasingly used to diagnose and monitor treatment outcomes in CS patients. Although corticosteroids are commonly used to treat active sarcoidosis, it is unclear what the response rate is, as measured by PET scans, in patients treated with corticosteroids. Method: In this study, we analyzed the charts of all patients referred to the St. Paul’s Hospital Cardiac Sarcoidosis Clinic. Of the 316 patient referred, 170 patients (54%) underwent a PET scan. In addition to reporting the baseline characteristics, we followed the clinical course of these patients. Findings: Of the 170 individuals who underwent a PET scan, 133 were male (66%) and 57 were female (34%). The ages ranged from 20-80 years with a mean age of 57.5 years.
