Synthesis of N-pyrimidin[1,3,4]oxadiazoles and N-pyrimidin[1,3,4]-thiadiazoles from 1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-amines and 1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amines via Pd-catalyzed heteroarylamination

•An efficient synthesis of N-pyrimidin[1,3,4]oxadiazol and thiadiazol scaffolds.•The products of this reaction could be used as the building blocks in drug design.•The method has broad scope and good functional group tolerance.•The reaction occurred generally in good yields.
