Nanoencapsulated phase change material with polydopamine-SiO2 hybrid shell for tough thermo-regulating rigid polyurethane foam

•NePCMs with highly tunable PDA-SiO2 bilayered hybrid shell were prepared.•The reduction of pH value during the reaction inhibits the growth of PDA layer.•The NePCMs exhibit high phase change enthalpies and thermal stability.•n-OD@SiO2-PDA lead to thermo-regulating RPU foams with improved properties.
