Cloud base height estimates from sky imagery and a network of pyranometers

•CBH is estimated by correlating measured GHI with GHI modeled using a sky imager.•CBH is analytically derived from solar and cloud geometry adapted to sky imagery.•CBH estimates are validated against stereographic methods and ceilometer measurements.•The proposed CBH estimate method only requires one sky imager and irradiance sensors.
