Methods of usability testing in the development of eHealth applications: A scoping review

•Despite massive growth, only a small proportion of eHealth apps publish usability evaluations.•Questionnaires are still the most frequently used method of usability evaluation in eHealth.•Automated methods of objectively evaluating usability, such as eye-tracking are hardly used.•Investigation into the usability evaluation methods employed by eHealth developers is needed.
