Evaluation of the compatibility of pentafluorosulfanyl chloride with various solvents and additives

•A qualitative guide for the use of SF5Cl was established via its radical addition on allyl benzyl ether.•SF5Cl compatibility has been evaluated in 14 solvents and in presence of 13 additives at three reaction temperatures.•SF5Cl was found to be stable in presence of most common solvents and water, with the exception of DMF and DMSO.•SF5Cl addition was found to tolerate ethers, esters, aliphatic and aromatic alcohols, carboxylic acids and copper salts.•SF5Cl was found to be incompatible with most nitrogen-containing compounds, amides and sulfoximides.
