Ceratocystis canker resistance in BC1 populations of interspecific hybridization of fig (Ficus carica) and F. erecta

•The BC1 were created by backcrossing between fig and interspecific hybrid.•BC1 population with true resistance to Ceratocystis canker was obtained.•Ceratocystis canker resistance might be controlled by a single dominant gene.•The BC1 showed high propagability and well-graft compatibility to fig.•The BC1 is a practical source for resistant rootstock to Ceratocystis canker.
