Testing of Peltier current leads used in real electrical superconducting network

Peltier current leads (PCLs) for high-temperature superconducting (HTS) DC applications can significantly reduce heat load on the cryogenic systems and increase overall performance of the HTS equipment. In order to investigate their operational properties in real electrical network for the first time, 144 PCLs developed in Chubu University were mounted at the terminals of 500-meter long HTS DC cable facility in Ishikari, Japan. Real-time data acquisition system monitoring a large amount of data allowed us to analysis of the PCL array operation both in idle mode and under the load of up to 6 kA per cable.
