Interface characterization and mechanical properties of dual beam laser welding-brazing Al/steel dissimilar metals

•Dual beam laser welding-brazing is used to connect Al/steel dissimilar metals.•Derived laser beam improves wettability and controls IMC formation.•Wettability of fusion aluminum on steel improve as laser power increase.•IMC layer thickness increase as laser power increase.•Tensile strength of 123.7 N/mm is obtained with the most optimum parameter.
