Characterization of cracks formed in large flat-on-flat fretting contact
International Journal of Fatigue(2019)
Abstract
•Severe fretting-induced cracking was found at low nominal normal pressures.•Local “adhesion” spots formed on nominally flat-on-flat contact.•Usually two major cracks were found at an adhesion spot.•Multiple arrested cracks were observed on the surface.•Cross-sections provide an effective way to study cracking and material degradation.
