Multimodal wrist-worn devices for seizure detection and advancing research: Focus on the Empatica wristbands

•Wrist-worn motion and electrodermal activity sensors allow effective GTCS detection.•Retrospective and prospective clinical studies show high sensitivity (92–100%).•The trade-off with false alarm rate in inpatient settings is acceptable (0.2–1 per day).•Longitudinal outpatient performance is similarly promising for widespread adoption.•The integrated sensors combination can provide biomarkers for SUDEP risk.
