Effect of Novel Combinatorial Nanosuspension of Catechin and Ciprofloxacin on E. coli Induced Prostatitis Rat Model

The present study reports preparation of nanosuspension of ciprofloxacin and catechin to evaluate the synergistic effect on chronic bacterial prostatitis induced male wistar rats. The prepared nanosuspension was evaluated by spectroscopic determination, differential scanning colorimetry, particle size, zeta potential, and in-vitro dissolution, which was found to meet its predermined requirement for novel drug system. The induced prostatitis animals were divided into four groups receiving different treatments separately. Tissue samples were obtained via prostate tissue biopsy, while urine samples were taken via cystocentesis. The obtained tissue samples were analyzed in the aspect of acinar change, interstitial fibrosis, and inflammatory cell infiltration, while urine samples were sub-cultured with prostatic tissue for bacterial colony growth. The results showed superiority of catechin and ciprofloxacin nanosuspension in the reduction of acinar change, interstitial fibrosis, and inflammatory cell infiltration, and the inhibition of bacterial growth in urine. This study successfully demonstrated the synergistic effect of catechin and ciprofloxacin.
