FTIR fingerprints associated to a PLS-DA model for rapid detection of smuggled non-compliant diesel marketed in Morocco

•Determination of the chemical composition of diesel samples by GC–MS.•The usefulness of FTIR coupled to chemometric tools for rapid detection of smuggled diesel was inspected.•Data visualization and search of outliers was performed by PCA.•The ability of the PLS-DA model for the classification and discrimination between authentic and smuggled products was approved.
