Abstract

•Radiative recombination from 5Dj, and 5Lj to 7Fj levels of Sm ions takes place.•A number of narrow absorption can be attributed to self-absorbtion process.•The concentration of incorporated rare-earth ions affects the refractive indices.•One can obtain optical “band-pass” filters with specific transmission bands.
