摘要

•A facile template-free method was developed to synthesis hollow TiO2 spheres.•The effects of etching reaction on morphology and structure of TiO2 spheres were investigated.•The hollow TiO2 spheres exhibited unique surface assembled with enriched nanothorns.•The hollow TiO2 spheres showed excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light.
