•We established a TaqMan-based real-time QF-PCR for detection of the Mmc.•The detection limits of the QF-PCR for Mmc was 11 copies/μL.•The QF-PCR provides reliable technological support for the detection, prevention, and control of Mmc infection.•The assay was applied in the detection of Mmc in 95 cilnical samples.
