•About 49% of primary antiphospholipid syndrome patients have enhanced expression of type I IFN gene signature.•This overexpression of type I IFN is associated with an earlier events onset and with history of preeclampsia.•Type I IFN signature is not observed in nonimmune-mediated thrombophilia.
