•Members of fungi are an important source of lipopeptide products.•Lipopeptides exhibit potent activity against human and plant pathogens.•Four distinctive categories of fungi-derived lipopeptides are reported.•Antibiotic activity, SARs, mechanisms of action and specific relevance are discussed.•Eight derivatives have been developed into commercial products or clinical trials.
