Breast cancer awareness, knowledge and screening practice among women resident in an urban local government area of Oyo State, Nigeria

•Breast cancer has emerged as the most common female cancers in Nigeria in the past few decades.•Multi-stage sampling method was used to recruit 332 women in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area,Oyo State Nigeria.•Most women were aware of breast cancer but knowledge and practice of breast cancer screening were low in the study population.•There is urgent need for community-based awarness campaigns on breast cancer screening.
