A Child With Severe Metabolic Bone Disease And Hypophosphatemia Associated With Elemental Formula

Introduction: Phosphorous, along with calcium, is required for adequate bone mineralization, and higher concentrations of serum phosphorus are needed in children due to their rapidly growing skeletons. Chronic hypophosphatemia results in decreased bone mineralization and is usually due to renal phosphate wasting. We describe a patient with non-renal hypophosphatemia associated with use of an elemental formula. She is part of a multi-site case series of 41 similar patients.
