•Hospital and domestic wastewater of Qatar contain concentrations of antibiotics.•Sand filtration, UF and chlorination can not remove antibiotics from wastewater.•Removing the targeted antibiotics needs advanced treatment such as RO and ozonation.•Harsh and dry conditions may affect behavior of antibiotics within treatment facilities.
